Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report a registered sex offender was charged with criminal child enticement related to an incident in Bellefontaine Wednesday evening, June 14.

Ora A. Tingler, 47, of 416 1/2 W. Sandusky Ave., Apt. B, Bellefontaine, was lodged in the Logan County Jail Wednesday evening.

Deputies received a report about 7:10 p.m. regarding a man trying to entice a child to get into his vehicle in the area of 521 W. Columbus Ave.

Upon arrival in the area, deputies spoke with a male juvenile, who reported that he was at the corner of west Columbus Avenue and south Caroline Street on his scooter when

Tingler stopped his vehicle to talk with him. He said Tingler was driving a red vehicle with orange or yellow lights on top of the vehicle.

The boy stated that Tingler asked him to get in his vehicle so he could take him to a local ice cream parlor to get ice cream.

The boy said the neighbors began yelling, which caused Tingler to take off and a neighbor walked the boy back to his relative’s house.

Deputies also spoke with a neighbor at 116 S. Caroline St. who witnessed the incident. The neighbor said he observed a red Ford Explorer stop at the intersection next to the young boy and the driver started talking to the child.

The neighbor said he recognized Tingler as a registered sex offender and began yelling at the defendant. After Tingler took off, the neighbor helped to walk the boy back to his relative’s home and then called law enforcement.

About 8:30 p.m., deputies located Tingler at 121 E. Brown Ave., Bellefontaine. He denied talking with a child, but admitted to being in the area of south Caroline Street and west Columbus Avenue that evening, he said “to take pictures for upcoming work.”

Tingler’s friend who resides at the east Brown Avenue residence said Tingler arrived at his house about 7:30 p.m. that evening.

Deputies said the defendant’s vehicle parked at the residence, a red Ford Explorer with amber-colored lights on top, matched the description of the suspect’s vehicle.

Tingler was placed under arrest. Deputies said his criminal history check showed a conviction in 1999 for gross sexual imposition. Because of the GSI conviction, the criminal child enticement charge was enhanced from a first-degree misdemeanor to a fifth-degree felony. The sexual offender registry classifies Tingler as a sexual predator.
