ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A registered sex offender has been charged with murder after he beat a man to death on Genesee Street Thursday morning, according to Rochester Police.
According to RPD, Angel Lopez, 65, was found dead just after 6 a.m. in front of a corner store from apparent blunt force trauma.
Investigators say Lopez was attacked on the third floor of an apartment building on Sawyer Street at around 3 a.m. Friday by Damien Young, 38.
RPD says Young beat Lopez into at least a semi-unconscious state, and then threw him out of a third-floor window. Police say Lopez initially landed on the second-floor fire escape, and then fell onto the pavement, where he succumbed to his injuries.
According to Rochester police, both Young and Lopez lived inside the apartment building.
Young was taken into custody Thursday afternoon and was taken to Rochester General Hospital. He was discharged Friday and was charged with murder in the second degree. Young was arraigned Saturday morning. He pleaded not guilty and claimed self defense.
RPD says Young is a registered Level 2 sex offender.
