
EDWARDSVILLE — A homeless Alton man was charged Monday with failing to register as a sex offender.
Michael S. Cummings, 44, listed as homeless out of Alton, was charged Oct. 16 with unlawful failure to register as a sex offender (second subsequent offense), a Class 2 felony.
The case was presented by the Alton Police Department.
According to court documents, on Oct. 13 Cummings failed to register with the Alton Police Department. As a homeless person, he is required to register weekly.
According to the Illinois State Police sex offender database, he is listed as “non-compliant” and a “sexual predator.”
He has convictions for criminal sexual assault, failure to report and aggravated criminal sex abuse.
In August 2021, Cummings failed to register as a sex offender with the Alton Police Department within three days of being released from Illinois Department of Corrections custody. It was noted at the time that he has a prior conviction for unlawful failure to register as a sex offender out of Madison County in 2005.
He was ordered remanded to custody, but no additional information was available.
This individual has only been charged and remains innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. All charges may not be reported.
