Public body says security is “top priority” as concerns grow over vulnerability of health data

The UK’s national body for genomic data collection and research does not record hacking attempts, despite MPs having raised concerns over the security of health data, Research Professional News has learned.

Genomics England was launched by the coalition government in 2014 with the aim of sequencing 100,000 whole genomes from NHS patients, using the data for research and improving healthcare. It was set up as a company owned by the Department of Health and Social Care.
