The Rochester School District announced this week the Nancy Loud School is permanently closed due to safety concerns.According to district officials, two engineering reviews found evidence of deterioration and displacement in the building’s stone and brick foundation. Experts stated the necessary repairs on the foundation will take at least four weeks and could cost the district at least $280,000. School officials said they plan to reassign 88 K-4 students to a new school. Despite the building’s current condition, district officials said they were already planning to close the Nancy Loud and School Street schools by 2025 due to the construction of a new elementary school on Salmon Falls Road. Parents, guardians and community members are encouraged to attend a forum about the Nancy Loud School and reassignment plans from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. next Thursday at Rochester City Hall.
