Online predator David Hutchinson thought he was meeting a 14-year-old schoolgirl, but was met by police prosecutors instead.
The teen did not exist but her persona was used as bait by UK pedophile hunters Dark Justice to catch the 47-year-old who had been sending explicit messages to who he thought was a young girl called “Amy”, whom he began chatting to on a dating site.
“Over time, and after exchanging mobile telephone numbers, the messages became more sexually explicit,” Dark Justice said.
It is believed the father of two asked Amy for sex and sent her a picture of his genitals.
Prosecutor Anne Richardson said: “The messages became more sexual in nature and he asked her questions like what colour knickers she was wearing.
“He asked if she wanted to have sex and she replied by saying she had never done it before.”
Following the exchanges Hutchinson arranged to meet the child at Times Square, in Newcastle city centre.
The moment the balding pervert is arrested by police is captured on video, which has been posted on YouTube by Dark Justice.
Hutchinson was charged with attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming. He was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for 12 months, after pleading guilty to a charge of attempting to meet a child after sexual grooming.
He was described as a “sad and lonely” character who had been rejected by members of his family because of his behavior.
Judge Edward Bindloss said Hutchinson’s actions had the potential for significant harm but took into account his previous good character and the fact he suffered from learning difficulties.
