Safety Campaign For School Vehicles | Jaipur News | #schoolsaftey

Jaipur: After a school bus met with a road accident in Jaisalmer, the state transport department has decided to start a campaign from Wednesday in all districts to check if vehicles carrying school children fulfil safety requirements.

Officials of the department said that autorickshaws, minivans and minibuses were being used to ferry children without proper permits in many districts. The campaign will focus on ensuring that safety guidelines are followed by the school authorities.
An order issued by transport commissioner K L Swamy states, “Recently, in an accident of a school bus in Jaisalmer, many children were severely injured. An initial investigation report in the matter suggests that the accident took place as the vehicle had more passengers than its capacity… the vehicle was also being driven by the conductor and not the driver, due to which the bus fell into a ditch after it lost balance.”

“To stop such incidents of road accidents, a rigorous checking campaign will be conducted from July 26-August 4, especially to check safety measures in vehicles carrying children. It is very important to stop the use of illegal vehicles for ferrying children. We have learnt that autorickshaws, taxi, bus, minibus are used for school children and these vehicles are also used for marriages and other parties; strict action must be taken against such vehicle owners,” the order says.
According to norms, any vehicle being used to ferry school children must have ‘School Bus’ or ‘On School Duty’ written prominently on it along with the name and contact number of the school.
