Saginaw sex offender returns to prison for raping man at adult foster care facility | #childpredator | #kidsaftey | #childsaftey

SAGINAW, MI — Previously incarcerated for sex offenses, a Saginaw man is heading back to prison for raping a fellow resident of an adult foster care facility.

Saginaw County Circuit Judge Darnell Jackson on Aug. 14 sentenced 61-year-old Jesse Cavazos to 15 to 30 years in prison. Jackson gave Cavazos credit for 481 days already served in the county jail.

Cavazos must also continue to register as a sex offender.

Cavazos in June pleaded guilty to third-degree criminal sexual conduct. The charge involves penetration and is a 15-year felony. Cavazos’ sentence was increased as he pleaded as a third-offense habitual offender.

In exchange for his plea, the prosecution dismissed one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, a life offense.

Beginning in 2014, Jesse Cavazos lived at the Schiavone Adult Foster Care facility at 1019 N. Michigan Ave., prosecutors alleged. On several occasions since then, Cavazos sexually assaulted two men who are also residents there, prosecutors have said.

Police began investigating when a staff member of the facility called 911 to report the abuse in early April 2022. They arrested him on April 20, 2022.

The crime Cavazos is newly convicted of occurred April 14, 2022, and involved him assaulting a 70-year-old man.

Cavazos’ criminal record includes two convictions of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, one of which involved a victim 13 or younger. Those convictions occurred in Saginaw and Ingham counties in May 1996 and September 1999, respectively.

Due to those convictions, Cavazos must register as a sex offender. The offender registry shows Cavazos last verified his status on April 7, 2022, just a week before he committed his latest crime.

The Michigan Department of Corrections paroled Cavazos from prison in November 2010, then discharged him in July 2012.
