He was since been charged with 10 counts of possessing child pornography, which is a third-degree felony, according to records from Hays County.
Cortez remained at the Hays County jail on Monday, according to court records. His bail was set at $250,000 on the child trafficking charge, $50,000 on the harboring a runaway child charge, and $10,000 each for the 10 child pornography charges, court records show.
After Cortez’s initial arrest, the sheriff’s office said it believed there could be other victims in San Antonio and the surrounding areas. Cortez allegedly met potential victims online using the social media platform Snapchat, where he portrayed himself as a young teenager.
He was previously arrested in 2021 and charged with three counts of sexually assaulting a child and one count of indecency with a child by sexual contact, according to court records.
Under a plea deal, he was convicted only of indecency with a child, a second-degree felony. He was sentenced to 10 years probation and 100 hours of community service and required to register as a sex offender.
