UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – Oneida County Sheriffs arrested a Sangerfield man they have been trying to locate since April on charges that he violated Sex Offender Registry Program requirements.

41-year-old Leon Marriott was arrested on Thursday, August 3 for violating the requirements set forth for him in the New York State Sex Offender Registry Program. Oneida County Sheriffs say they have been looking for Marriott – a Level One Sex Offender – since Sunday, April 16, when investigators could not locate him at his residence for a routine check.

Further investigation revealed that Marriott had not been living where he said he was and was allegedly living in the City of Utica and failed to change his address. By law, sex offenders must change their address within ten days of moving. Further attempts to locate Marriott failed, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Thursday, August 3, members of the Utica Police Department and the Oneida County Sheriffs located Marriott at a residence in Utica. Police subsequently arrested him on the execution of the warrant. Further investigation found that Marriott also has a prior Family Court warrant from another county, as well as a violation of an order of protection at the time of his arrest.

Marriott was subsequently transported to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office for processing and was held without bail after arraignment. He is currently being charged with Failure to Register a Change of Address – which is a Class E Felony under New York State Corrections Law – and further charges are pending. He is scheduled to appear in Whitestown Town Court at a later date.
