ALBANY – A Schoharie County sex offender admitted this week to possessing child pornography, federal prosecutors said.
John C. Hotaling, 62, of Esperance, entered the guilty plea on the eve of trial, prosecutors said.
Hotaling admitted that in 2020, he possessed child pornography images, some of which he created by photoshopping the faces of children onto nude adult bodies engaged in sexually explicit conduct, a process known as “morphing,” prosecutors said.
Hotaling had been on supervised release at the time related to a 2009 conviction for the same conduct, prosecutors said. He also admitted he violated terms of his supervised release.
Hotaling is to be sentenced in January and faces up to 20 years in prison.
The FBI, New York State Police and U.S. Probation Department investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Douglas Collyer, Ashlyn Miranda and Rick Bellis are prosecuting.
