Scottish boarding school was ‘madhouse of violence’, says ex-pupil | #schoolsaftey


A former pupil is suing an elite Scottish boarding school for £1 million over what he describes as living in a “madhouse of violence”.

Angus Bell has waived his right to anonymity in order to catalogue the physical and sexual abuse he says he suffered at the hands of older students at the exclusive Loretto school, near Edinburgh.

Loretto, whose former pupils include Andrew Marr, the broadcaster, Alistair Darling, the former chancellor, and SNP MSP Fergus Ewing, is the oldest boarding school in Scotland.

Bell said that his 1990s experiences of the school’s now highly controversial “fagging system” were akin the the William Golding novel Lord of the Flies.
