Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) is looking for a Security Metrics Specialist who will be responsible for building reporting and data analytics capabilities for our Security Program. This role reports to the Director of Security Analytics & Assurance. Security Analytics & Assurance’s focus is on the oversight, measurement, and monitoring of operational risks to ensure that security enabled investments deliver optimized business benefits in support of our banking clients.
A successful candidate will develop and implement reporting systems and procedures that enable the continuous improvement of SVB’s security controls. We are looking for a candidate who will influence operational risk decisions by furthering a data-driven and analytical culture. The Security Metrics Specialist will partner with Security and IT operations teams to build the right reporting solutions to help drive SVB’s strategic vision. The Security Metrics Specialist position will blend deep data visualization skill with a strong report and dashboard development background to help develop leading edge security metrics solutions.
As a Security Metrics Specialist you will:
Create visually compelling dashboards and metrics, historical data trend analysis, and identify opportunities to drive continuous process improvement of the Security Program.
Provide key insights for Senior Management review to facilitate security related decision making and justify needed improvements of the Security Program including its scope, policies, objectives, controls, processes, and procedures.
Build early warning systems to aid in detection of problem trends, facilitate root cause analysis and help develop long term, scalable solutions.
Measure the effectiveness of security controls as prescribed by SVB’s Security Policy and Standards, regulatory compliance (e.g. GLBA, UK DPA, EU GDPR, FFIEC Cybersecurity Assessment Tool), the CIS Critical Security Controls, and ISACA’s COBIT 5.
Facilitate the management of risks as identified by Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The candidate will provide options for risk treatment plans as well as our recommendations based on SVB’s risk appetite. The candidate will document the business’s risk treatment plans, and track and report on the implementation of the selected option.
Maintain formal KPI reporting ensuring that the right stakeholders are updated at the right time. This would incorporate reporting under existing committees and rapid escalation for breached KPI Outer Thresholds.
Working with the Enterprise Risk Management group, the candidate will facilitate continuous improvement of security in relation to SVB’s evolving business risks and acceptable risk tolerances.
Skills and Requirements:
B.A./B.S. degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics or similar quantitative field or equivalent work experience in business intelligence, analytics, decision support, information security or related field.

Knowledge of and hands-on experience with Splunk, data visualization and dashboard tools such as Tableau (or other tools) supporting data analysis and reporting using blended data sources.
Experience with “big data” programming environments and competency in analytics software packages and program environments to include Splunk, Tableau, Excel, machine learning, Hadoop, Spark, Python, or R (statistical programming language).
Experience with automating reporting processes.
Coding/scripting experience with Splunk Search Processing Language (SPL), Python, PowerShell or using Phantom (security automation and orchestration platform) a plus.
Splunk, Tableau, or Certified Analytics Professional (CAP) or similar certifications a plus.
Experience with regulated systems (GLBA, SOX, FFIEC) in the financial industry a plus.
