Red was one of the malnourished dogs found at the home. But according to the county, with food and good medication, the vet is almost ready to give it a clean bill of health.

Red looks much better now, and several of Red’s pals are frisky and ready to be adopted.

“They really need some tender loving care because of the situation they came out of,” said Alan Harris with the Seminole County Animal Cruelty.

Seminole County Animal Services is running a 10-dollar adoption for cats and dogs special to make room.

In order to adopt an animal, individuals will have to sign an animal cruelty registry that would need to be approved.

Harris said the registry limits the ability of people already convicted of abuse or cruelty in the past to get more animals.

“It’ll be kind of like a sexual predator, offender list. You can check what’s going on in your neighborhood, see what’s going on with people found guilty of animal cruelty,” Harris said.

Harris said it has already worked in a neighboring county, where names and addresses are checked.

“Just after the court case, the person had paid their fines, they had someone try to go adopt a dog and bring it back to the same house,” Harris said. “It stopped them from doing that.”
