Sen. Eric Lucero (R-Saint Michael) has been named vice chair of the Legislative Commission on Cybersecurity, a position that capitalizes on his significant background and expertise in the areas of privacy and cybersecurity.

“Strengthening and enhancing cybersecurity measures is crucial in today’s digital age, where virtually our entire lives – especially sensitive information – are stored online,” Senator Lucero said. “Cybercriminals are constantly evolving their tactics, and protecting sensitive information, preventing data breaches, and safeguarding individuals, organizations, and even nations from cyber threats is a never-ending battle. I am eager for the commission to continue the work of helping to protect the sensitive data of individual Minnesotans.”

Sen. Lucero is in his ninth year serving in the MN Legislature and has 20 years of experience working as a technologist and cybersecurity expert in his private sector career. Sen. Lucero specializes in information security, privacy, and compliance with areas of expertise including strategic enterprise planning, technology implementation and administration, threat and vulnerability assessment, gap analysis, risk mitigation, process improvement, incident detection and response, digital forensic investigations, and the deployment and maturation of security operation center capabilities.

The Legislative Commission on Cybersecurity was established in 2021 to provide oversight of the state’s cybersecurity measures. The commission shall review the policies and practices of state agencies with regard to cybersecurity and may recommend changes in policy to adequately protect the state from cybersecurity threats. The commission may develop recommendations and draft legislation to support and strengthen the state’s cybersecurity infrastructure.
