T&T is are currently seeking an experienced Sr. Windows System Administrator to provide a high quality, secure and resilient platform to support business needs, with a primary focus on strong Windows Administration experience in 2003, 2008 and higher in support of the Veterans Administration in Austin, TX.  This is a Mid-Shift position with scheduled hours between 11:00 PM and 7:00 AM
Position Description:

The primary responsibilities are:

  • Plans, deploys, manages and optimizes Microsoft-based enterprise solutions.
  • Perform Windows 2003, 2008, and 2012 Server Operating System installations and upgrades.
  • Perform installation, configuration and deployment of new IIS servers.
  • Perform installation, configuration and deployment of new Microsoft servers.
  • Windows Server installation and administration to include troubleshooting and root cause analysis as well as VMware client/instance installation and management.
  • Creates and maintains local documentation related to Window system administration related installation and configuration guides, as well as procedures and policies.
  • Provides support to users, software vendors, and other administrators (ie: database, application, network, other OS systems, backup, and storage administrators) with problems, projects, and implementations.
  • Installs and implements new releases and patches to the operating system software as well as firmware upgrades.
  • Implements security hardening requirements and structures provided by security division to secure the operating system structures to prevent unauthorized access and deny access to systems.
  • Tracks and documents all system changes, problems, issues, and work tasks within CA’s Unicenter Service Desk (USD) through change orders, service requests, incident and/or problem tickets.
  • Installs, configures and deploys Microsoft servers and SQL servers/clusters.
  • Accomplishes server security updates following established procedures and guidelines.
  • Supports active directory tasks.
  • Supports third party product server installations.
  • Serves as a member of the Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) team and be available to travel for DRP testing and in the event of disaster.
  • Participates in data center support activities such as Disaster Recovery, data replication, infrastructure support activities such as documentation, and troubleshoot performance issues.
  • Provides state-of-the-art solutions for high availability and fault tolerance. Windows server fault isolation, diagnostics, and resolution
  • High level of knowledge and understanding of SSL certificate operation and management.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a senior level administrator
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and projects
  • Strong organization skills and demonstrated in-depth proficiency with Windows
  • Strong focus and dedication to completing all tasks
  • Team player who is able to work across multiple functions and disciplines;
  • Ability to act on own initiative and work in a dynamic environment
  • Storage experience is a plus
  • 3-5 years of experience working with Microsoft SQL server 2008/2012/2014.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge and experience with using SCCM, SCOM, and IEM (Tivoli).
  • Knowledge and experience with VMWare and Citrix.
  • Experience with the installation and configuration of server hardware, including HBA’s, NIC’s, PSU’s, etc., specifically, Dell and HP products.
  • Active Directory, Powershell, IIS 6 and 7 experience
  • High level of knowledge and understanding of SSL certificate operation and management.
  • Deploying, configuring and optimizing Windows server 2008 and 2012, both virtual and physical servers.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without immigration sponsorship.
  • Employee needs to be able to sit at a workstation for extended periods; use hand(s) to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Most positions require ability to work on desktop or laptop computer for extended periods of time reading, reviewing/analyzing information, and providing recommendations, summaries and/or reports in written format. Must be able to effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing. Employee may be required to occasionally lift and/or move moderate amounts of weight, typically less than 20 pounds. Regular and predictable attendance is essential.

Education and/or Certifications

  • A minimum 4-year degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent combination of work and education.
