AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Several counties in the CSRA are getting funds from the Georgia Department of Public Health to buy and distribute child car safety seats.
Funding is provided by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for the efforts in a total of 113 counties.
Since 2007, the education, car seats and booster seats provided through the program have saved the lives of more than 437 children who were involved in crashes, according to the health agency.
Throughout Georgia, DPH and county health departments work with community partners to educate parents and caregivers on how to properly install and use car seats, offer car seat inspections, and provide car seats and booster seats to financially eligible families.
Getting the funds in the CSRA are Columbia, Hancock, Richmond, Taliaferro and Washington counties.
