VALPARAISO — A 38-year-old sex offender who has been accused in the past of getting an underage girl pregnant and sleeping at the home and in a tent with another 16-year-old girl is back behind bars after being discovered this week staying at a Valparaiso church in the presence of a 4-year-old child, records show.
Adam Zuleger was found Tuesday at the Living Hope Church at 115 Calumet Ave. in the presence of the child who was also staying at the site, Valparaiso police said.
Zuleger, who has a lifetime requirement to register as a sex offender from Florida, was registered in December at a residence in Merrillville, police said. But he has had multiple interactions with Valparaiso and Porter County police from April through November, records show.
He was not currently registered as a sex offender in either Porter or Lake counties, authorities say.

Zuleger now faces two felony counts of failing to register as a sex offender and made an initial appearance Thursday morning on the charges before Porter Circuit Court Judge Mary DeBoer.
“He just kind of went limp for a moment,” Cassoday said.
DeBoer set bond at $2,500 cash only and appointed a public defender to represent Zuleger.
In August 2005, Zuleger pleaded guilty in in Porter County to a felony count of sexual misconduct with a minor and misdemeanor invasion of privacy, records show.
The charges stemmed from allegations in 2005 that Zuleger had sex with a girl starting when she was 14 years old and continuing when she was 15 years old, records show. The girl ended up getting pregnant.
Zuleger was then arrested in February 2006 after allegedly being caught living in the bedroom of a 16-year-old Valparaiso girl without her mother’s permission, records show. Another arrest followed a month later when he was allegedly found sleeping in a tent in Valparaiso with the same girl.
