A Storm Lake man was sentenced to two years in prison for failing to report his residence to the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Department, a requirement of the Iowa Sex Offender Registry.
Associate Buena Vista County District Court Judge Andy Smith sentenced Jose Figueroa Ramirez, 34, to the prison term on Monday. Figueroa-Ramirez agreed to serve the sentence, according to court records. He pleaded guilty to failure to comply with sex offender registration violations and violation of probation—both charges stemmed from his refusal to report his residence on College Street to the sex offender registry. In exchange for his guilty plea, Assistant Buena Vista County Attorney Ashley Herrig agreed to dismiss a felony methamphetamine possession charge the Buena Vista County Sheriff leveled against him in March.
Figueroa-Ramirez was arrested last March for failing to report his residence to the sheriff. The registration was a requirement under the terms of his sex-offender registration, which stemmed from him exposing himself to a woman and her children, according to court documents.
