A text sent to police stating there was an active shooter at Casco Bay High School was unfounded, according to Portland police.
Police say they received a text at about 9:20 a.m.
“Police officers arrived on scene and made contact with school staff who were unaware of the call,” according to a statement from Portland police.
School officials brought students to a nearby area while 15 officers searched the school. The fire department also brought medics to the area.
The search did not uncover any threats and students have since returned to the school, police say.
“Investigators are urging anyone who has any information that might assist in this or any other case to call them at (207) 874-8575,” the statement reads.
