Simple WhatsApp trick gives you the latest design before anyone else | #deepweb | #darkweb | #cybersecurity | #informationsecurity

WhatsApp is bringing a visual update to its online messaging service which Android and iPhone owners have enjoyed for weeks. But if you can’t wait for the official update to drop, we’ve got a brilliant tip that lets you access the feature right now.

If you’ve been enjoying dark mode on iPhone and Android since it launched worldwide in March, you’ll be pleased to know that Facebook-owned WhatsApp is bringing the visual update to your desktop. WhatsApp Web allows you to send and receive text messages, videos, images and documents from your laptop or desktop without sacrificing the end-to-end encryption.

There are some limitations with WhatsApp Web – you can’t join video calls, which recently doubled the maximum number of people who can simultaneously take part in a call. It’s important to note that desktop apps designed by WhatsApp are powered by the WhatsApp Web technology under the bonnet. So, the same restrictions apply.

WhatsApp is still working on dark mode for its WhatsApp Web. However, there is a nifty trick to enable it right now.

Yes, you read that right. You don’t need to worry about waiting for the developers in California to flip the switch on the feature.

WhatsApp has another crucial update for iPhone and Android users

Dark mode, which is designed to save your eyes when sending text messages late at night – or boost your battery life if you’re using a device with an OLED panel, can be enabled by heading to the official page web.whatsapp.com in Google Chrome, or your choice of web browser and logging in.

After you’re all logged in, you will need to right-click on a blank area outside of the chat window. You’re looking for the option to “Inspect” in the right-click menu. As soon as you see that option while clicking around in WhatsApp Web – select it.

This will load a very geeky-looking side menu that breaks down the code that makes up the webpage you’re looking at. Make sure you’re in the Elements tab at the top of the menu that loads – then scroll to the very top.

In the first few lines, you should find a line of code that states string— body class=“web”. Double-click on “web” and change it to “web dark”. Hit Enter on your keyboard and you should immediately see the entire user interface in WhatsApp Web switch from bright shades of white to gloomier shades of blue and black. If you’re burning the midnight oil texting in a group chat, this should really help save your eyes.

Express.co.uk has tested this – and it definitely worked for us in Microsoft Edge on macOS.

But note, refreshing the webpage will revert the online messaging service to its glossy bright white user interface. If you don’t fancy loading up the code each time you want to switch to dark mode, there are Chrome extension that’ll do it for you.

And of course, when WhatsApp rolls out dark mode to WhatsApp Web users worldwide in the coming months, there will be an in-built option – with no need to third-party web browser add-ons, or delving into code.
