Skokie Sex Offender Exposed Self To Teen In Evanston Jewel-Osco: Cops | #childpredator | #kidsaftey | #childsaftey

Authorities said a man with seven public indecency convictions was arrested after pulling out his genitalia in the frozen food aisle.

EVANSTON, IL — A registered sex offender exposed himself to a teenaged girl Tuesday in an Evanston grocery store, authorities said.

Christopher Lee Custodio, 33, of the 7700 block of Lowell Avenue in Skokie, was charged with public indecency, a felony due to his multiple prior convictions for the same offense, according to Evanston police and Cook County prosecutors.

Custodio has seven previous convictions for public indecency, four of which were felonies, Assistant State’s Attorney Clara Malkin said at his initial court appearance Wednesday in Skokie.

Court officials said he has also been convicted of sexual exploitation of a child after he was found guilty of masturbating from the window of his home after getting the attention of a 12-year-old outside.

Around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night, the teen girl and her mother were shopping at the Jewel-Osco at 2485 Howard St. when Custodio lewdly confronted the girl, Malkin said.

“The [teen] was walking down the frozen food aisle in the Jewel when she observed [Custodio] standing in the same aisle,” Malkin said. “As the [teen] continued to walk down the aisle toward [Custodio], [Custodio] pulled his penis out of his pants and exposed it towards the victim.”

The girl fled the aisle and told her mom, Malkin said. They told store security what had just happened, and Evanston police were dispatched to the scene.

After getting a description of the man who had just exposed himself, officers spotted Custodio, who matched that description, as he left the nearby Target store at 2209 Howard St., got into his car and drove away, Malkin said.

Police pulled over Custodio, took him into custody and had the girl identify him, according to the prosecutor.

According to his court-appointed attorney, Custodio has an 11th grade education and works at an ice cream shop.

Associate Judge Anthony Calabrese ordered Custodio to pay $5,000 to secure his pretrial release and not to have any contact with the teenaged girl to whom he is accused of exposing himself.

The judge said said it remained to be seen whether prosecutors would seek the maximum period of incarceration in Custodio’s case or recognize that he appears to suffer some kind of sexual compulsion.

“I am concerned for the safety of the community,” Calabrese said, “in the sense that the kind of conduct that’s been engaged in by [Custodio] on a seemingly regular basis is a concern to law-abiding citizens.”

Custodio is due back in court July 13 to be indicted.
