Somerset senior becomes scam hunter following costly marriage to younger Egyptian man | Somerset Live | #DatingScams | #LoveScams | #RomanceScans

An 83-year-old grandmother who wed a much younger Egyptian man is now cautioning others about the potential dangers of “scammers and con-artists” lurking on dating platforms. Iris Jones became a media sensation after connecting with Mohamed Ibrahim via Facebook in June 2019. She swiftly flew to Cairo, Egypt, to meet him in person and they exchanged vows the subsequent year.

Her frank discussion of their private life during a 2021 interview on This Morning left presenters Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield in fits of laughter, earning Iris a host of admirers.

However, last year saw Iris declare an end to their union, humorously stating she had “replaced him with a cat” and branding her former beau “evil” and akin to a “sewer rat”. The breakdown of their romance followed Iris’s allegations that she had been covering Mohamed’s debts and providing him with substantial loans.

Residing in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, Iris is now imparting words of caution to those seeking love online, reports the Mirror. In a recent Facebook post, Iris dispensed her guidance, warning: “A warning to all vulnerable women online, chatting to scammers and con-artists, thinking they are messaging genuine males on legitimate dating sites.

“Be aware that they are only interested in getting their filthy paws on your money and will sweet-talk you for weeks, or even months in order to achieve their goals.”

Iris, who has recently become a self-proclaimed “competent scam hunter” after being targeted by four fraudsters in recent months, asserts that one particularly “evil” scammer attempted to swindle her out of a substantial sum of money. She declared: “You picked the wrong woman this time, because I make it my business to expose scammers such as you. I have really enjoyed being the puppet master, having you dance my tune.”

Previously, Iris accused her younger ex-lover of pilfering £25,000 following his move into her modest bungalow, which she affectionately refers to as her “chicken shack”. Additionally, she claimed to have transferred £14,000 to him while he was still in Egypt before their nuptials.
