A South Carolina man is headed to prison for recording inappropriate videos of a 4-year-old girl while he was babysitting, according to authorities, according to Attorney General Alan Wilson.(Warning: Some of the details in this story are disturbing) Martin Lee Dickert pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and five counts of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. The charges go back to an incident on Sept. 18, 2020, when Dickert was babysitting several children in the Whitmire area of Newberry County, according to investigators. The investigation showed Dickert recorded videos of a 4-year-old girl’s private parts, including some in which he was touching her. When the victim’s mother returned home, the 4-year-old immediately told her mother what happened. A news release said when Dickert was told that he was being arrested for criminal sexual conduct, Dickert responded, “I was babysitting.” At that time, no one had advised him that the offense involved a child. Wilson said Dickert gave investigators consent to search his cell phone, and during that search, 44 images, including over 30 videos, of the victim were found. When confronted with the images, Dickert confessed that he made the recordings of the victim, Wilson said. Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster said this was one of the most disgusting and horrific cases he has seen in his law enforcement career. “Dickert is a monster and is now where he needs to be, in prison,” Foster said. Dickert was sentenced to 45 years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections, with 10 years to be served on the charge of criminal sexual Conduct with a minor and seven years on each of the five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. These sentences will be served consecutively. Dickert will be required to register as a sex offender upon his eventual release and will be subject to lifetime GPS monitoring. “My compliments to the investigative and prosecutorial team for their steadfast endeavors in bringing this sexual predator to justice,” Foster said. “I would also like to compliment our Detention Center staff for dealing with him. In addition to being a deviant, he was an extremely difficult inmate.”
