Students, pupils and staff at Southam College held and took part in lessons and events for the Hate Crime Awareness Campaign. They were supported by PCSOs from the area’s Safer Neighbourhoods team and town mayor Cllr Graham Foster.

The college’s 6th Form Amnesty Group researched the thought-provoking Stop Hate UK campaign and felt the need to support those victims who might be unlikely to report it.

Students and pupils across the school were taught about the campaign and considered the legal definitions of hate crime, such as what constitutes hate crime and why it matters to report such acts of hate towards others.

They worked with staff to produce their own pledges and messages of support to show solidarity to those who have fallen victim to hate crime.

The event was supported by both of the PCSO’s serving the Southam area, Nav and Katrina, Richard Dickson from the Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations at Coventry University and the Town Mayor of Southam Cllr Graham Foster, who all offered their own pledges of support and spoke to the students about their understanding of hate crime in the area.
