Spending Bill Tasks FTC With Foreign Ransomware Reporting | #hacking | #cybersecurity | #infosec | #comptia | #pentest | #ransomware

The Federal Trade Commission would have to report to Congress on complaints about ransomware incidents involving foreign adversaries under a measure included in a year-end government spending package.

The House-passed bill (H.R. 4551) seeks information on ransomware and other cyberattack-related complaints submitted to the commission concerning hackers connected to Russia, China, Iran, or North Korea. The FTC would have to regularly report on the number and details of these complaints, along with trends in the complaints.

Reporting on ransomware would expand the role that the FTC plays in a government-wide effort to combat a surge in attacks …
