Sr. Technical Manager

Details: Working under general guidelines, the Senior Technical Manager is responsible for leading the design and development of software systems and applications. This position focuses at a platform level, takes a wholistic view, understands current business trends and conditions, and brings best practices to CoreLogic’s development process. This position is tactical and operates with an understanding of ROI (return on investment), business practices, and market trends. Software Architects exercise a scope of influence over 1-2 platforms, show technical leadership on a development team, and are competent to work on virtually all phases of application development. This position, in partnership with business partners/product owners, gathers information, analyzes needs, and guides clients to determine feasibility and functionality of client requests. Essential Job DutiesDesign, code, test and debug complex software while developing new functionality, and enhancing existing functionality, providing leadership to guide customers and satisfy their requirements, both internal and external. Design work encompasses a broad project/platform scope. Work is assigned via broad guidelines. Work includes developing detailed specifications from which applications will be written, designed, coded, tested and debugged.Consult with and advise Sr. Architect to define requirements and software design. Work with Software Engineering and System Engineering teams to evaluating technologies and make recommendations, considering things such as customer requirements, time limitations, system limitations, ROI, market trends/conditions, and best practices. Explore, research and implement new and alternate technologies and platforms. Evaluate, recommend, and apply these alternate/new technologies/ best practices, disseminating information throughout the team/department. Document large and complex assignments for knowledge transfer and develop expertise in multiple areas. Mentor other team members on areas of expertise. Provide technical expertise on a wide range of systems/projects.Interact with offshore teams and coordinate product and project related activities.Vendor interaction: gather and request information from vendors about their products to ensure compatibility. Define scope and develop testing methods, collaborating QA team and other developers. Work with QA team to improve all levels of testing efforts, developing and enhancing testing methods and processes. Support, maintain and document software functionality. Consistently makes recommendations on documentation process and methods. Provide operational support on complex/escalated issues to diagnose and resolve incidents in production systems. Incidents are fewer but more complex and far reaching in scope, requiring analysis of issues, determination of additional resources to resolve the issue, and an in-depth system/platform perspective. JOB REQUIREMENTS: EducationBachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience in a software engineering discipline preferred ExperienceSeven to ten years of experience in an applicable software development environment.Qualifications 5-8 Years experience in software design, development, and testing.Strong Java development skills.Familiarity with Agile Scrum methodology.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.BS Degree or equivalent work experience.Ability to work independently under general direction.Dedication to keeping abreast of emerging technology trends.Required Specific Technical Skills Core Java and Java Enterprise Edition (J2EE)Strong relational database experience using Oracle9i/10g/11g. SQL Server, DB2, MySQL, or PostgreSQL may be substituted for Oracle.Web Application development using one of the following frameworks: SEAM, Struts, Spring, Java Server Faces, or GrailsExperience using one of the following: JBoss, Glassfish, Weblogic, WebSphere, or TomcatExperience working in and deploying to a UNIX based environment. Experience designing application systems.Web Services development familiarity using either SOAP, WSDL, or REST Knowledge/SkillsUses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional to work on all phases of development within broadly assigned technical discipline.Able to translate conceptual ideas into projects and tasks.Able to translate complex business needs to technical requirements.Driven to excel in areas of technical expertise and expand base of knowledge.Business acumen to determine feasibility of customer requests.Customer oriented: meets individual commitments, works with the team to achieve team commitments, responds to requests in a timely manner, willing to help.Supervisory, coaching, and teaching skills to lead and/or supervise direct reports.Fluent and current on architecture trends with an eye on market/technical conditions.
