Stakeholders stress importance of school safety at conference | The Guardian Nigeria News | #schoolsaftey

Safety experts across Nigeria have stressed the importance of school safety in the country and the need for the society to confront the monster of insecurity in schools at the inaugural Beacon of Safety (BOS) Awards and Conference held recently to recognise commitments to safety in schools in Lagos State.
Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who received the first Beacon of Safety (BOS) visionary award, was represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende.

The governor commended the organisers of the programme, the Safe School Alliance, which organised the event in collaboration with the Lagos State Safety Commission, Safe Schools Lagos (SSLAG) Implementation team and Ministry of Education).

He  urged the schools to continue to comply with the safety initiatives of the government.
Schools in Lagos State that won the award included Chrisland Pre-Degree College, Lekki, Egbin Kingdom Primary School, Chrisland School Ladipo Oluwole, Bridge House College, Chrisland School VGC, Temple School, Early Years, Christland School, FESTAC Town, Starling School Lekki, Chrisland College Idimu, Temple School, Sixth Form, Chrisland High School Ikeja, Temple School, Primary, Dowen College, Chrisland High School VGC, among others.

Lagoon School Secondary, Chrisland Nursery School, VGC, Temple School, Secondary, Chrisland School, Opebi, Greenwood House School, Christland High School FESTAC Town, Kings’ Court Nursery, Chrisland High School Lekki, Delightsome Land School V.I, Chrisland School, Lekki, Lagoon School, Primary, Dolphin High School, Lagos Island, Eko Akete Senior Grammar School, Agboju Senior Secondary, Government Senior College, Agege and Lagos Progressive Senior Grammar School 
Speaking during the programme The National Coordinator on Financing Safe Schools in Nigeria, Hajia Halima Iliya who spoke on:”Financing Safe schools in Nigeria , How we do it”  said that they have adopted a whole society approach  to school security in Nigeria and they are looking forward to collaborate with the Lagos State government to replicate their success programme nationwide.
National Coordinator of School Protection Squad,  CP Basil Idegwu, said that the police and other security agencies had the responsibility of ensuring the safety and security in our society, especially when it comes to the protection of the vulnerable people in the society which are our children.

Head of Safeguarding, Chrisland Schools, Mrs. Kemi Fajemirokun, said: “When children are made a priority in the school setting and we are committed to their safety security and wellbeing they will excel and become the best in life.”
The Principal/ Head of School, Dowen College, Dr. Adebisi Layiwola said: “The award is a very good thing. We are so grateful to SLAG. They trained our staff. We have introduced safety day to create awareness on safety in our school. The students are safety aware, road safety aware,  internet safety aware. We are being proactive as far as safety is concerned in our school. We also have safety ambassadors . We are now security conscious, the school community, the parents. We now have safety management system that tied together every policy procedures. It is the parents and management responsibility.

Lead Resource Safe Schools, Lagos, Dr. Bisi Esuruoso said that Safety of children is now law in Lagos State.
