State police have investigated a fatal crash, a drowning and a crash that closed Route 220 in Wolf Township that involved an impaired driver.

In the fatal accident investigation, Jason Randall, 44, of Hillsgrove, was pronounced dead following a crash at 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday on Elk Creek Road in Sullivan County, according to state police at Laporte.

Investigator Justin Walton stated in a news release that this one-vehicle crash occurred just north of Hoagland Branch in Elkland Township as Randall was traveling in a 2018 Ford F-150XLT, and the vehicle went off the east side of the road and came to rest against a tree.

Randall was pronounced dead after the crash by the Lycoming County coroner. He was using a lap and shoulder belt, police said. Assisting on the scene was the Hillsgrove Fire Department, Hillsgrove EMS, Eldredsville Fire Department and West End Towing.

In the Route 220 crash, Taylor A. Berkey, 26, was driving a 5-year-old boy in a 2008 Subaru Forester at 5:40 p.m. on Oct. 28 on Route 220 north of the intersection with Beaver Lake Road. Berkey was notified the seat belt was used improperly and the child was in a front-facing child safety seat.

Investigator Dylan Houser stated that the crash occurred as Berkey was traveling south in the southbound lane of Route 220. As Berkey tried to negotiate a right curve in the road, the car’s passenger side tires briefly went off the western part of the road. The car then proceeded to spin counterclockwise across the northbound travel lane and exited the eastern portion of the roadway. The car then exited the eastern portion of the roadway and the passenger side of the vehicle made an initial impact with a utility pole, which caused the car to spin clockwise around the pole. The car also struck a chain link fence and came to final rest off of the eastern part of the road facing in a southern direction.

Berkey was transported to UPMC Muncy via ambulance for a suspected minor injury. The passenger was taken to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, for a suspected minor injury.

Both lanes of travel were closed for an extensive period of time.

The car sustained disabling damage with Cranmer’s Towing responding to the scene to remove it.

Berkey is currently under investigation for driving under the influence of intoxicants, police said.

In the drowning investigation, a 92-year-old Shunk woman drove her golf cart to a remote pond on her farm where she would often feed fish, according to the state police crime unit.

The woman was later located by a family member deceased in the pond, police said.

Investigation is ongoing as to whether the woman fell into the pond or suffered a medical emergency near the edge of the pond, police said.

There is no foul play suspected, police said.

The name of the woman was withheld by authorities.

Sullivan County Coroner Wendy Hastings said Friday morning that she could confirm the woman drowned on private property.

The incident took place Thursday between noon and 2 p.m., police said.

The nature of the incident was accidental death, police said.
