The Stearns County website appears to have been hacked in the early morning hours of July 4, according to County Administrator Mike Williams.
“Somewhere around 2:30 a.m. I think it was discovered by our staff that our website was redirected to a new site, and said it had been hacked,” he said. “I don’t think there’s any problems with it other than that it was redirected for a three- to four-hour time in the middle of the night.”
The website, which is hosted by a Michigan company, was running normally at about 6:30 a.m., Williams said.
The redirected page had a white background and stated “Hacked by Moroccan Islamic Union-Mail” and “this is not an attack we are just testing some tricks.”
Williams said county staff do not yet know the cause of the hack, but more information will be available in the next few days.
