Steven Gerrard and his daughter, Lilly-Ella, have both wished Dublin gangster Liam Byrne’s son, Lee, a happy birthday on social media.

Lee celebrated his 24th birthday on Tuesday, two months after his dad was arrested in Spain on foot of a warrant to face gangland charges in the UK. In 2022, Lee declared his love for Gerrard’s daughter, 19, by describing her as “the best person he’s ever met”.

As Lee turned 24, Liverpool legend Gerrard shared an image of the couple in a vehicle on Instagram and wrote: “Happy birthday mate, have a boss day,” with a love heart emoji. Lilly-Ella also posted a photo of herself taking a selfie with Lee in a lift, adding alongside three love heart emojis: “Happy birthday Lee, hope your birthday is as special as you.”

Lee, like Lilly-Ella and Gerrard, have no involvement in crime. Ex-England captain Gerrard, who now manages Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ettifaq after being sacked by Premier League side Aston Villa last October, has previously been pictured on numerous occasions with Lee’s dad, Liam, who’s a lifelong Liverpool fan and has regularly attended games at Anfield.

Named in court as the leader of the so-called ‘Byrne Organised Crime Group’, 42-year-old Liam is the older brother of David Byrne, who was shot dead during an incident at the Regency Hotel, Dublin in February 2016.

Crumlin criminal Liam has previously been filmed socialising with Gerrard, and footage emerged last year of the pair speaking to a fan on a video call, inviting them to a Liverpool match before Gerrard kissed the screen in a mimic of his trademark celebration.

In June, Liam was arrested by armed Spanish police on gang charges while enjoying a family meal in a restaurant in Alcudia, Majorca. Dublin Live report that he is to be charged with conspiracy to possess firearms and ammunition over numerous dates and conspiracy to possess automatic weapons and ammunition over numerous dates.

Liam is regarded as the head of the organised crime gang that bears his name as well as leading the European drugs importation scam for suspected crime boss Daniel Kinahan. The UK’s National Crime Agency recently confirmed that Liam was one of two suspected members of the Kinahan cartel arrested in Spain.
