“(We’re) making sure that we are talking to kids about internet safety, predators, anti-bullying,” Louis Defense with Smyrna Police said.
Police are using different scenarios for students to better understand how to be safe.
“You and I are friends. We are hanging out at the park together and we are taking a picture and all of a sudden a stranger tries to add you on Snapchat,” one officer said as she led a student through a scenario.
In the scenario, the student is learning how to pay attention to strangers that try to add children on social media.
“We are trying to maximize the people that we reach and talk to so that we can reduce the incidents of children becoming victims of adult crimes,” Defense said.

“Just giving the kids a really fun time where they can bond, they can get to interact with police and fire so they know who their trusted adults are,” Defense said.
