LENOIR — Summer is fully upon us with stifling temperatures and a wealth of activity options. The teams at Mulberry Pediatrics in Lenoir and The Falls Pediatrics in Granite Falls are passionate about your child’s safety and are excited to share some tips to keep your summer fun and safe.
The temperatures have been unseasonably cool this year, but the heat should not be overlooked when planning daily activities. Try limiting outdoor activities to the morning or evening when it is coolest. Also, make sure to choose light, loose-fitting clothes for your child to keep them comfortable. During the hottest hours of the day, spend time in an air-conditioned area if possible. You can also run a cool bath to cool off.
The sun’s rays also pose a threat to your child’s summer enjoyment. No one enjoys the feeling of a sunburn, but sunburns can leave your child dehydrated and unable to cool down. Make sure to apply sunscreen to your child if they will be outside. The CDC recommends a sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher be applied 30 minutes before going outside. Also, adding a hat and sunglasses to your child’s outfit can help protect them from the sun’s rays.
Finally, remember that your pediatric provider is always available to help when you are not sure how to prepare for a certain activity. Your child is unique, so asking questions is key to protecting their individual health and wellbeing. The providers at Mulberry Pediatrics and The Falls Pediatrics are here for you all summer with same-day, sick appointments, well visits, needed vaccinations and more. The team will be at the North Carolina Blackberry Festival this year in the Kids’ Cool Zone. Stay cool in the misting tent while playing with bubbles, drawing with chalk or getting a new temporary tattoo. Call the Mulberry Pediatrics office at 828-757-5509 for an appointment in Lenoir. Call The Falls Pediatrics office at 828-757-5050 for an appointment in Granite Falls.
