Teen charged with killing Boopac Shakur | #childpredator | #kidsaftey | #childsaftey

Robert Wayne Lee, pictured, was better known as Boopac Shakur online.

A 17-year-old man was charged Thursday in connection with the killing of a Michigan man known for exposing sexual predators online.

The teen, whose name has not been released, is accused of shooting Robert Wayne Lee II to death at a restaurant in Pontiac, just outside Detroit, in late September 2023.

Lee, known online as “Boopac Shakur,” would pose as a 15-year-old girl on social media platforms to chat with — and eventually expose — suspected pedophiles, authorities said.

He was killed after a confrontation with two men outside the Universal Coney Island restaurant around 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 29.

The 18-year-old was allegedly seen on security camera video engaging in a “physical altercation” with Lee.

The other individual, who was 16 at the time, was seen “pulling a semi-automatic firearm from his waistband,”  the Oakland County Prosecutor’s office said in a statement Friday, according to The Detroit News.

“The defendant then aims directly at the victim and fires multiple rounds, striking the victim,” the statement added.

Lee was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The suspects fled the scene.

“This is a tragic incident,”  Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said Friday in a statement. “A physical altercation turned deadly almost instantly because this individual chose to illegally carry a concealed, deadly weapon, and then to use it. The vast majority of gun violence deaths, including this one, are preventable.”

The teen was charged Thursday with homicide, carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm in connection with the deadly shooting. While he was charged as a juvenile, the judge could choose to sentence him as an adult.

He could also be sentenced as a juvenile or receive a blended sentence, which includes both adult punishment and juvenile rehabilitation, the Oakland Press reported.
