A 16-year-old will be charged as an adult for his alleged involvement in a shooting near Manual High School.

Jimichael Brown was charged with aggravated battery for shooting a 17-year-old who was walking to school in the leg on November 9.

Peoria police believe Brown is also responsible for firing the shots that struck Manual High School on Tuesday.

Brown is being held in the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center. The state’s attorney’s office plans to request his pretrial detention.

The shootings have concerned Peoria residents. One school board member has pitched a Safe Passage program for high-violence areas following last week’s shooting. Another suggested more bussing may be needed to help parents feel their children are safe going to and from school.

Brown and another 16-year-old were arrested by police during a raid on a home in the 1100 block of West Nebraska on Wednesday. A petition to transfer the other teen’s weapons case to adult court is pending.
