Telangana police data put on sale by hackers

Hyderabad: Telangana Police faces second incident of data breach within a week the hacking of TSCOP app compromising police related data which is for now up sale on online forums. This comes after the HawkEye app incident and the cops suspect the same hacker is behind the breach of TSCOP app, who was behind HawkEye app.

The TSCOP application data is being sold online for 120 USD, reported Times of India. The TSCOP application was launched in 2018, for the internal use by Telangana Police, aimed at providing instant information to help in crime-solving. Data Security researcher Srinivas Kodali said that the hacker hacked the entire TelanganaCOPs network including TSCOP, their facial recognition, the TOI report added.

Further explaining about the data breach, Kodali said that it was easy for the hacker because the software company, WINC IT Services, set up passwords which were in plain text inside the TSCOP app, which also connected the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS).
