Threat of gun violence postpones high school football game | #schoolsaftey

A threat forced the evacuation of the Roy C. Ketcham High School campus in Wappingers Falls and postponement of Friday evening’s varsity homecoming football game, the superintendent of schools said.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office identified and located the individual(s) responsible for the threat, which was reported to the school’s building administration at around 4:30 p.m. Friday, and on social media, Superintendent Dwight Bonk said in a statement.

“As our top priority remains the safety of our students and staff, the cancellation of the game this evening was necessary due to the nature of the threat that was communicated in a social media post that included a video with an individual who stated, “I am going to be bringing a gun to RCK Football Homecoming game and you are going to see the outcome live,” the statement says. “The District is not permitted to release any further information pertaining to the individual responsible for this threat, but we can assure you that this issue will be addressed to the greatest extent of the law.”

The Roy C. Ketcham versus John Jay homecoming game was rescheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at the high school.

The homecoming dance will take place at 6 p.m.
