TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – The Toledo Police Department is accepting applications from parents looking to enroll their kids in its free Safe-T-City program.

TPD says Safe-T-City aims to teach kids entering kindergarten in the upcoming year safety lessons on a range of topics including pedestrian, bike, bus, fire and water safety, and other important lessons like stranger danger.

Applications can be completed and submitted on the TPD website at the link here. Hard copies are also available and can be dropped off at the Scott Park Station or faxed to 419-936-3859. They’re available at the following locations:

  • Safety Building at 525 N. Erie in Toledo
  • Scott Park District Station at 2301 Nebraska in Toledo
  • Northwest District Station at 2330 W. Sylvania in Toledo

Parents can choose from morning or afternoon classes. Morning sessions run from 8:15 to 10:45 a.m. and afternoon sessions run from noon to 2:30 for the following dates:

  • June 11th – June 21st
  • June 24th – July 3rd (no classes on July 4th or 5th)
  • July 8th – July 17th
  • July 22nd – July 31st

Sessions are available on a first come basis.

“The children learn through a series of songs, poems, art projects, stories, movies, classroom experience and interactive involvement in an outdoor miniature city,” TPD said of the program. “The city is complete with streets, sidewalks, small buildings, traffic lights and stop signs. These topics, combined with many other safety issues, are presented to children in an effort to teach them critical safety skills.”

The 2024 program marks TPD’s 46th year offering the child safety classes.
