Agartala: Tripura will soon launch its first dedicated cybercrime police station to address the rising number of digital and online criminal activities, according to Director General of Police (DGP) Amitabh Ranjan’s announcement on Thursday.
The DGP highlighted that cybercrime has become a critical aspect of law enforcement, particularly in recovering money lost to online fraud and apprehending suspects from different states who commit crimes using digital technology. The force has obtained specialized equipment for handling various cases, including drug-related offenses and cybercrimes, through a central modernization scheme.
“Establishment of a dedicated station to deal with cybercrime is underway, with a few procurements pending before its official launch. We are in the process of doing it fast. Besides, Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawans now have expanded roles, taking on community policing, law and order maintenance, and urban crime management,” Ranjan stated.
He said, “The insurgency is now resolved for which TSR was formed. But now TSR personnel will participate in new training sessions, including drills with the National Security Guards (NSG), Rapid Action Force (RAF), and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to equip them with the skills needed for urban policing and community engagement.”
The DGP reported that the chief minister introduced a comprehensive six-point development plan for TSR, which includes doubling the ration money to Rs 2000, increasing dress allowance to Rs 12,000, and establishing gymnasiums in each battalion with Rs 5 lakh funding.
The administration has raised the honorarium for TSR battalion medical officers to Rs 60,000 monthly.
