A man defrauded a Tropical Smoothie Cafe, according to authorities.

The man called the restaurant at 15 South Gateway Drive in Stafford County on April, 27, at 5:18 p.m. An employee answered the phone and a caller stated he was from the company’s corporate office.

The caller stated that the Tropical Smoothie Cafe shop was under investigation by police.

“He then told the employee to take the contents of the register and deposit the money into a Wells Fargo account,” states Stafford County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Amanda Vicinanzo.

The employee then deposited the undisclosed amount of money from the register into the account requested according to police. The employee then called her manager about the incident and the manager suspects the event was a scam, said  Vicinanzo.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
