The National Academy of Engineering inducted new members on Oct. 2 for the classes of 2020, 2021 and 2022. Tuskegee University Trustees were included as new members of the NAE, one of the highest professional distinctions conferred on engineers.

Tuskegee University Board Chair Norma Clayton was inducted into the class of 2022 for her leadership in transforming manufacturing processes and supply chain management and for innovative training programs for commercial aerospace industries. She was one of 111 new members and 22 new international members.

Former Trustee Dr. Arthur J. Tipton was inducted into the class of 2021 during the ceremony. He was acknowledged for the development of commercialization of drug delivery systems, business leadership and fostering STEM education of disadvantaged students. He was one of 104 new members and 24 new international members.

The main criteria for members in the National Academy of Engineering are outstanding personal contributions and accomplishments in engineering research, practice or education, including where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature. Members are proponents of pioneering new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education or providing engineering leadership of major endeavors.

Founded in 1964, the NAE has more than 2,000 peer-elected members dedicated to providing advice on matters involving engineering and technology while promoting the engineering profession.
