The Texas Department of Transportation says the “Save Me With a Seat” campaign is underway in conjunction with National Child Passenger Safety Week, which is Sunday, September 17th through Saturday, September 23rd.

TXDOT says they’re reminding people about the importance of not only having children in child safety seats, but also having those seats properly installed. In fact, TXDOT says that nearly half of all child safety seats are not properly installed.

According to TXDOT, in 2022 there were 72 children under the age of 8 who were killed on Texas roadways, and 16 of those were not restrained.

Furthermore, TXDOT says that nationwide, 46% of all child safety seats are not properly installed.

TXDOT is reminding people that their various district offices offer free car seat safety checks year-round and they urge people to take advantage of it.
