U.S. Army warns of military draft in text scam | #lovescams | #military | #datingscams | romancescams | #scams

HENDRY COUNTY, Fla. — The United States Army Recruiting Command is warning Americans about a new scam appearing in text messages across the country.

The text messages will state that a military draft is occurring and the recipient must report for duty or face legal action and financial consequences.

The messages may or may not have a number to call, but usually include an address to a nearby recruiting station, according to the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials strongly urge individuals to avoid calling the number if it is included.

“The U.S. military remains an all-volunteer force as it has since 1973. All messages claiming there is a draft are fraudulent. U.S. Army recruiters have not and will not contact anyone stating they are required to show up at a recruiting station or join the military. The all-volunteer force consists of highly trained professionals who have made the personal choice to serve and meet the cognitive, physical and moral requirements to be part of the Army team.”

Brian McGovern, Deputy Director of Public Affairs. U.S. Army Recruiting Command.
