Gabriel Allen Hargus

CHARLESTON — U.S. Marshals are searching for a Mineral Wells man wanted for failing to register as a sex offender.

The U.S. Marshals Southern District of West Virginia CUFFED Task Force issued a press release this week seeking the public’s assistance in finding Gabriel Allen Hargus, 46, who is believed to have left the state.

Hargus is wanted by the marshals, West Virginia State Police and the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation on warrants for three counts of second-offense failure to register as a sex offender and a parole violation.

According to the release, Hargus was convicted in February 2011 in Kanawha County Circuit Court on charges of third-degree sexual abuse involving a 13-year-old female, and possession of materials depicting a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. He was sentenced to two years of incarceration, 30 years extended supervision and lifetime registration as a sex offender.

The release says Hargus knows he is wanted by law enforcement and is working to evade apprehension. He is known to drive a 2016 silver Ford Focus, with West Virginia registration N3R908.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Hargus is asked to call the U.S. Marshals Service Tip Hotline at 1-877-WANTED-2 (926-8332) or the Southern District of West Virginia at 304-347-5136. Tips can also be emailed to the CUFFED Task Force Tip Hotline at [email protected], or the USMS Tips App. All tips are kept confidential.
