Udupi: In a distressing incident, Suryansh Sunil, a 22-year-old resident of Udupi, has become a victim of online fraud, losing a total of Rs 7.30 lakh. Sunil fell prey to a deceptive WhatsApp message promising part-time employment and lucrative earnings at a company called Demco Group Digital Marketing Company India.

The fraudulent scheme unfolded when Sunil received a message on May 20, claiming that he could earn money by working for Demco Group. Encouraged by the opportunity, Sunil contacted a person named Sneha Sharma, who instructed him to pay a sum of money in order to carry out a task for the company. Sunil was provided with the bank account details to facilitate the transfer of funds. Trusting the legitimacy of the offer, Sunil proceeded to transfer a total of Rs. 7,30,926 to various accounts specified by the perpetrators. These transactions were conducted online between May 21 and May 26.

To his dismay, Sunil realized that after completing the assigned task, the accused failed to provide the promised payment and did not return the transferred funds. Consequently, Sunil lodged a complaint at the local crime police station, detailing the fraudulent incident.

A case in this regard has been under the Information Technology Act and further investigations are underway.

The rising trend of online fraud continues to pose a significant challenge, with innocent individuals falling victim to cunning scams and financial deception. Authorities have been urging citizens to exercise caution while engaging in online transactions and to be skeptical of unsolicited messages offering quick monetary gains.
