UMC Children’s hosting water safety event Saturday evening | #childsafety | #kids | #chldern | #parents | #schoolsafey

UMC Children’s Hospital is hosting a free event Saturday to promote water safety among children and families.

The event, a collaboration between UMC and Texas Tech Physicians, takes place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Lubbock Water Rampage. The event will provide water safety training for kids and their parents, and representatives from the hospital will distribute free life jackets while supplies last.

Families will also receive free admission to Water Rampage during the event.

“This event will serve as UMC Children’s Hospital’s 3rd Annual Water Safety Event,” Erica Allen, community outreach specialist, said in a news release Wednesday. “Over the past three years, we have seen a decline in the number of pediatric drownings within our area. We hope to educate families and put children’s safety at the forefront of our efforts throughout the year. For the summer months, our focus shifts to water activities due to the number of activities and historical high volumes of drownings.”

The event also features CPR training, emergency vehicle tours, life jacket fittings and giveaways. UMC EMS and the Lubbock Fire Rescue dive team will also be in attendance.
