Attackers whose identities remain uncertain claimed to have exfiltrated 7TB of data from the University of Manchester in the June 6 attack, with stolen data including students’ and staff’s personal information, medical details, research data, HR documents, finance files, drug test results, and databases, among others.
The university, which first disclosed the incident on June 9, has not provided additional information regarding the attack but clarified that the intrusion is not associated with the widespread attacks involving the MOVEit Transfer file transfer app or the Zellis hack, which stemmed from the MOVEit Transfer compromise. Students who received the attackers’ warning emails have been instructed to send the messages to the university’s IT department.
