A man accused of sexually assaulting a teenager was punched in the face while he was waiting outside a Las Vegas courtroom, video shows.

The video, obtained by local CBS affiliate KLAS, shows Yousuf Azami, 59, walking out of the Las Vegas Justice Court courtroom on Tuesday, just before 11 a.m.

It’s unclear why Azami walked out of the courtroom, but he was scheduled to attend his preliminary hearing on charges of kidnapping, lewdness, and sexual assault that day, KLAS reported.

As Azami leaves the courtroom, a second man, identified as Glenn Cromwell, Jr., gets up from his seat outside and walks up to Azami. Then the man clocks Azami in the face, as bystanders and police officers run over and try to intervene.

Cromwell was charged with battery, KLAS reported. It is unclear what relationship, if any, he had with the suspect.

Azami’s charges stem from a September 2023 incident in which he allegedly raped a teenage girl at his home, according to court documents cited by KLAS.

The girl could have been as young as 14 years old. She had been outside a hotel trying to “get something to smoke and eat” when she encountered Azami and got in his car. Then he allegedly drove her to his home, according to the report.

“Azami was on the couch for a while on his phone and then came to lay with her on the bed,” police said, according to KLAS. “[The teenager] had just started to fall asleep when Azami lay behind her. She stated she felt his pelvis ‘grinding’ against her and he was not wearing any clothes.”

When the teenager left his home, she stopped a man on the street and told him she had been raped.

Azami has denied the allegation.
