VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh special chief secretary (health) MT Krishnababu said that National Medical Council (NMC) has itself alerted the state government with regard to the forged letters of permission issued to the private medical colleges for increase of seats in PG stream.
He said that they have suspended the first round of counselling after NMC issued a public notice that several letters of permission issued to three medical colleges in the state were forged/fake.
The NMC found that about 136 additional seats were granted to three colleges through fake letters. Subsequently, the state government went for the second counselling by taking due care in readying the seat matrix by following NMC website and official communication. He said that they have taken additional care to ready the seats available in different colleges based on NMC website.
However, NMC came out with another public notice saying that it found two more letters issued to GSL medical college as fake. “We have followed the official information available on NMC portal to ready the lists. However, NMC found discrepancies with the seats allocated to the GSL medical college after the completion of second phase counselling,” said Krishnababu.
He said that they have decided to go for revised counselling for the management quota seats which is third round counselling for PG admissions. “We are not aware of what action NMC is proposing to take on the issue. We wanted to make it clear that the state government has very little role in the seats’ allocation or increase to the private medical colleges,” said special CS.
He clarified that there is no truth about NMC officials commenting about the possibility of issuing similar forged letters to the medical colleges in other states. He said that his discussion with the NMC officials was only about the situation in AP and as to how to set things right. He said that they were also not aware whether the NMC website was hacked or not. He, however, confirmed that they have depended on the NMC portal for information of seats allocated to different private colleges while going for second phase counselling. It was mysterious as to how the forged letters appeared on the NMC portal.
