Weeks-long sting leads to arrest of suspected child predator near Brighton | #childpredator | #kidsaftey | #childsaftey

LIVINGSTON COUNTY, MI – A Detroit man attempting to meet with a teen girl for “immoral purposes” was arrested Thursday south of Brighton, police said.

Officers were dispatched to search for the man around 10:52 a.m., April 18 in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven, 9290 Lee Road in Green Oak Township, seven miles south of Brighton, according to the Green Oak Township Police Department.

The man thought he was meeting with a 14-year-old girl for “immoral purposes,” police said. He had been speaking with a caller working with police who had posed as the girl since March, police said.

Multiple exchanges of text messages between the man and the caller led to scheduling a meeting at the 7-Eleven on Thursday, police said. Township police officers were waiting for the man, who was sitting in the vehicle he described in the text messages, police said.

The man was legally armed with a pistol, police said.

He was arrested and is lodged in the Livingston County Jail pending a review of charges by the Livingston County Prosecutor’s Office, police said.

The case is still under investigation.

The sting operation involved an independent organization working with the Green Oak Township Police Department, police said. Trying similar methods without experience or law enforcement cooperation is “extremely dangerous,” police said.
